Mom and Dad know a guy that always lets us pick all the sour cherries we want from his tree, but this year we were worried we weren't going to get any from all the bad weather we've been having. This turned out not to be the case (see post below), but I didn't know that and so decided to make provisions on the cherry front by purchasing a large box of Flathead Cherries, which come from the Flathead Lake region of Montana. They're not sour - they're very sweet, and some can be the size of a small plum! We pitted them, made a pie, and froze the rest. I also made some jam (so yes, we have cherry jam coming out of our ears, again see post below).
Here are the boys pitting cherries. These cherries are tough to pit. Our friends came up with the best method - position cherry over the mouth of an (empty) beer bottle (guess you have to drink a beer before you can do this). Remove the eraser from a pencil, and use this to push the pit out of the cherry and into the bottle. Worked well, but made a huge mess!

Reder was covered in juice!
This is how Ruby was helping - running around without any pants or undies on, swiping a cherry every now and then:

Was that shot of Reder straight from Pulp Fiction?
