Texas Part IV

Aunt Mary and Uncle Dick have an awesome swimming pool. She got the kids some water wings. It took them awhile to figure them out, but pretty soon they were swimming themselves all around that pool, without our help. Quite often we didn't have to get in with them, but just watch from the side instead. Another theme of the week - PUSH THE BUTTON! They have an alarm on their doors so that kids can't escape and drown in the pool. You have to push the button first, then open the door, or the alarm sounds. Sounds easy, but not true! Someone would forget to push the button, and subsequently announce to the world that they are the forgetful dufus. So when anyone approached the door the rest of us would shout PUSH THE BUTTON! Funny.

Anyway, here are kids in the "boat":

Aunt Karie riding the Wenis. Sounds politically incorrect, but who cares, it's the perfect name for this little yellow floaty device. Aunt Mary's friend coined that term, and she was spot-on.

Little Ruby and Aunt Mary:

Even Libby got in the pool, which has never happened before, but we finally figured out she was spooked from all the lack-of-pushing-the-button going on:

This pool was just great for all of us. It's about 5 feet deep, so the perfect depth. Jason was a fan of the cannon ball, which the kids thought was hilarious. Ruby got so good at swimming in fact that she would put on her water wings, jump in, and lean way forward so she was more on her tummy and could kick with her feet. Another great thing about it was that it pooped out the kids, so they slept like little rocks every night!

As an aside, Reder was in one bedroom, Jason and I were in the other, and Ruby slept in the walk-in closet in our room. Last time we were there she was scared, and we had so much trouble getting her to go to sleep. This time she called the closet "her bedroom" and was more than happy to go to bed in it. What a real vacation this turned out to be! Thanks Aunt Mary and Uncle Dick!
