Easter Weekend, Part 1

I get Good Friday off at work, so we decided to do something special.  That is the easy part.  Now what exactly to do is harder.  We were brainstorming ideas, but didn't come up with much.  Friday morning I thought of the Grizzly Bear and Wolf Discovery Center in West Yellowstone.  Ruby was napping, but by the time she woke up we were ready to go.

The drive up the Gallatin Canyon and through the NW corner of Yellowstone national park was Beautiful.  We didn't think to take any pictures, but the beautiful day with all of the snow still smoothing everything out was great.  An hour an a half later we arrived in West Yellowstone.

We know that it is their off season - being after snow-mobile season but before Yellowstone opens to cars, but we didn't realize how dead it would be.  We had promised Pizza, but every pizza place we could find was closed for the season.  In fact every restaurant was closed.  We finally found that McDonalds was open, with maybe only one employee working - we were rare customers.  So we settled for "Bungers and fries" instead of Pizza.  Katie is going to make Pizza for dinner tonight to cover for it.

But I had called ahead to make sure that the Bear Wolf Center was open.  But there weren't many visitors - probably more employees.  It was interesting, but not as much as we had hoped.  We did get to see four Grizzly bears out playing in the snow, swimming, wrestling, and eating.  We also saw a lot of Wolves - just out sleeping in the sun.  There were some exhibits, but not much else going on.  It was neat to see though.

We took a different route home - following the Madison River through Ennis, with a stop for ice cream.  It was such a nice day that the drive was definitely a highlight too.

Today we went to our church's Easter egg hunt at a park in town.  There were lots of kids, and lots of eggs.  Reder had a great time hunting for eggs, and then playing with the boys and girls at the playground after the brief hunt.   Ruby enjoyed watching everything from the backpack.
