Fun at the Museum

This morning we went to the Journey Museum in Rapid City.  My grandma played a big role in its creation and now my dad is a board member, but we had never been there.  I am not the biggest museum fan (although we go to the museum at home often), but we were very impressed.  Reder was happy that this "new museum" had dinosaurs too.  The part I liked was the history section, but Reder wasn't too impressed with this so we moved quickly.  This next picture was probably the best part - the little plaque reads:

THEODORE REDER (foremost figure w/ full beard) & FELLOW WORKERS IN REDER'S SAWMILL, ca. late 1880s.

In addition to his activities as one of the regions earliest saw mill operators, a Rapid City builder and area rancher, Theodore Reder is also credited with creating one of the Black Hills' most picturesque attractions - Sylvan Lake and the original resort hotel which once occupied its shore.

The ox yoke (left) is from the Reder ranch which originated as a mining claim, ca. 1879, and which still exists along Sheridan Lake Road.

This is Reder's great-great-great-grandfather, whom he is named after.

This picture of the Stratosphere Bowl is also fun because the bowl borders the ranch and you can see part of the ranch in the upper right of the photo.

Reder did like riding the saddles in the history section.

I'm also throwing in a picture of Ruby taking a bath in Grandma Mary's kitchen sink:
