Hail Storm

Sorry for the delay in posts. We have been having a problem with blogger giving us an error whenever we upload pictures. Some Google'ing tells me that error 400 is a mysterious but common error with blogger, maybe having something to do with upload sizes. Now I am doing one picture at a time, and it seems to be working now. Grrr....

So we are a ways behind, so I'll start to catch up.

Our first interesting thing - A hail storm on June 7th. It was the worst hail storm I have ever experienced, and the first time we have every had a significant hailstorm at our house. It was heavy with lots of wind (next two pictures while hailing, yes it was sunny):

Here is Reder showing some hail. It varies in size, most at 1/2", some a bit bigger. The ground was warm so it melted quickly (it was in the 70's when the hail started).

The kids thought the hail was fun, but Katie wasn't happy about the hail.
This is maybe a half hour after the storm:
Luckily we hadn't planted anything but seeds yet in the garden, and the seeds hadn't sprouted yet. The Rhubarb took it hard though.
And so did Katie's flow beds. Most stems were sheared off:
All exposed trees were cleared of leaves and some bark on the west side. And our fruit trees lost their blossoms. It was impressive how the hail mowed the tall grass - it mashed and broke the grass enough to lay it down flat. We will have to have someone look at our roof to see if it is ok - I'm guessing it is, but it would be worth having someone check. Our gutters have funny little dents, but that won't affect their functionality, and a lot of gravel was taken off of the asphalt shingles (the gutters have >1/2" in them).

Now almost two weeks have passed and the Rhubarb is bouncing back and so are many of Katie's plants (although some didn't survive.) The grass is growing back too. Hopefully our trees will grow new leaves? They look kinda dead right now.
