Sealing our Floors

We should seal our slate floors every two years or so, but it had been 5 years since had done it last so a couple of weekends ago we decided it was time.

It was quite a job moving everything off the slate, then scrubbing it as clean as we could.

Doesn't this look like fun?:

Then we applied 4 coats of this stuff, letting it dry for 1 hr between each coat. The kids had to stay upstairs for much of the day, and they did great, until the very end of course. We did ask a lot of them.

While one coat was drying we took a picnic lunch upstairs and the kids got to choose where we ate. Where did the pick? Our closet, of course! This was a dream come true for them as they're always playing in there!

One memorable thing we had at lunch here - an Asian pear. Have you ever had one? We had not but Reder said "Yum, this tastes like candy!". It really did. I got it as part of this Bountiful Baskets food co-op (bountifulbaskets.org). For $15 you get an enormous box of produce. It's a steal! I love it b/c it gets you to eat more fruits and veggies, and makes you try new things. You might check it out in your area. I remember seeing it listed for Texas, Colorado, and Iowa. Ours runs every two weeks but you get so much produce I'm not sure we could eat it all if it was every week. Look into it!

And the end of the day we decided to take the kids out for dinner. We couldn't go into the kitchen, and everyone had about had enough of playing upstairs with no fresh air. So out we did. It felt good to actually get something accomplished around here!
