Weekend Review

Just a few quick photos from this weekend. The weather has been great.

Saturday we got a lot of things done around the house - misc yard work, dug & froze carrots, etc. Here is a picture of the largest apple from our "orchard:"
We also deer-proofed our trees (so the deer don't destroy the bark when rutting.) We also need to do something to keep the deer from eating our shrubs. But the fawns are cute:
Sunday we went for a hike up to Grotto Falls:
A couple of odd things from the hike. First, this dead tree was so covered with moss/lichen that you could probably consider it to be alive:
And this is the boulder field just below the waterfall. We have been by this many times, but it was very different this time. The photo doesn't show it very well, but there are hundreds of columns of rocks. My guess is that someone started this, but now everyone who goes by feels drawn to build their own stack of rocks. It was really strange to look at - like a forest of rocks. This is a fad that will probably last - I suspect there will be even more stacks next time we are there. Very unnatural, but kind of fun.
